About Shaina

Shaina is passionate about working with today’s modern adults and college students struggling with the stress of modern life, especially those grappling with anxiety, depression, or grief. Shaina brings a naturally warm demeanor, a quick wit, and a collaborative spirit. She fearlessly helps her clients tackle challenges with a balanced mix of compassion and directness - never shying away from the inevitable messiness involved in being human.

Shaina has a special place in her heart for treating all types of anxiety, especially high-functioning anxiety and burnout. She recognizes three common behaviors in many of her anxious and overwhelmed clients: perfecting, performing, and people pleasing. Through a blend of mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Shaina helps her clients to stop saying “yes” when they want to say “no”, connect back to what’s truly important to them, and life hack ways to manage their worries without neglecting their own needs.

From dealing with life's painful transitions to navigating grief or battling anxiety and depression, Shaina believes that therapy can be a useful tool for any card-carrying member of the human race. She guides her clients towards self-acceptance and self-compassion, setting them up with more resilience for when life throws another curveball.

With nearly ten years of experience in clinical mental health, Shaina holds a Bachelor’s Degree from UNCW and a Master’s Degree in counseling psychology from the University of Denver. Having worked in college counseling centers, research labs, inpatient hospitals, and private practice, she feels privileged to provide support at Arise, and to the community she calls home.
